I really enjoyed this book, mostly because Caleb is not a biblical character most writers bring to life, though he is one widely known. Rivers did a good job of giving Caleb personality, but sometimes he seemed too stubborn in faith. Although that's supposed to be a good thing, it sometimes seemed unrealistic. He was portrayed as the perfect believer, though he was belligerent at times. Also, I like the way Rivers portrayed Caleb as a support to Joshua, a man of experience who encouraged Joshua in his God-given role. Time transitions were almost non-existent, as Rivers jumped many scenes ahead in just one line. If I had not been familiar with this story, I would have been confused. The ending was powerful. Overall, I recommend this book.

Very Interesting and it brings to life the story GODS people while they where in the wilderness . She gets her facts from the BIBLE , GOD HOLLY WORD .

This author always inspires me to read the Bible more. Here stories are life changing and great. I love reading her books.

Please be aware these books are small and the writing is small. I bought these for my Grandma and she had trouble reading the font. I should have looked to see if they had large print. She still read them and loved them. I would highly recommend all of the books in this series. They do not need to be read in order as they are individual stories based upon the biblical character.

This book will give you an idea of what ISIS is like. This is a very well written book and follows the bible which makes the bible come alive. Maybe one of my favorites of her books. They're all my favorites though.

I read this about 15 years ago and it was my favorite of the series. Reread it prior to giving it to my 16 year old nephew. True to scripture, and makes a great story.

I love this author@!! I read and keep all her books.

In my profession in the financial field I stay on the lookout for books that may make it easier to explain some of the concepts I use to the clients I work with so picked this one up to see how it handled statistical analysis and regression. I had long been a fan of the classic "How to Lie With Statistics" by Darrell Huff written in the 50's and this book is "an homage" to that work. I enjoyed it because I like statistics and I think the average reader will enjoy it but they may want to shy away from the chapter appendixes as they get more in depth. The author does a good job of steering away from the more complex issues (non-linear regression analysis, for example) and comes up with some good examples to illustrate his points. He does one of the best jobs I have encountered of explaining the "Monty Hall problem" which is why an individual, after having picked say, "door number one" and Monty shows that door number 3 has a goat behind it and offers to let the contestant change his mind to door number 2. It sounds counter intuitive but the right choice is to make the change. Why? Guess you'll have to get the book and check it out.I liked his explanation of concepts enough that I purchased his book "Naked Economics" despite my extensive study of the topic in anticipation that I will find some nuggets of explanation that I can use.

I received this as gift to help me with a Stat class I was taking. It does well explaining basic statistical concepts in plain English with a startling lack of numbers in the examples. Where a traditional textbook fails in explaining it's material and it's relevance, this book excels. I had hoped it would reconcile my difficulties understanding regressional analysis but that did not come to fruition. The author has some humor that he applies sparingly and is welcomed and the examples make the knowledge gained seem relevant. That aside, don't expect to learn statistics by reading this alone. There is little re-read value to it as it presents itself in a storytelling manner which you wouldn't need to hear again. Do not let that dissuade your purchase as this does what most educational texts fails to do, which is mak you care about the subject and see its prevalence in society.

I'm tardy on submitting a review on this as I read it awhile ago.I purchased this book as a step on my journey to build up certain skill sets and knowledge in a field that I wish to break into and combine with my current expertise. This book was a great read on statistics. In my opinion, the author did a fantastic job explaining concepts and how the associated formulas worked in a slightly technical way, but mostly leading into explanations in layman' terms. In particular, the examples he used to further explain the material really brought everything together and made it easy to understand and retain. They weren't just the typical generic and sterile situational type of examples, rather something that the vast majority of readers can relate to or, at least, visualize more simply. Something that was more interesting to get the reader vested in the material.Thanks to the author for taking the time to write this. I have your other books on my reading list now.

The description "easy read" should not go with a book that explains statistics. Unbelievably, this book does that. I have read books and taken graduate level courses in an effort to learn statistics to transition from medical care to medical research. Although this book would be far from replacing those, it has taken much of the pain and obtuse explanations away and supplanted them with easy to understand lingo and real world application. I understand concepts much better after reading this book. Heck, I may try and learn economics by reading the same authors book on that subject ( which I have no clue about one, but will soon!)

I found naked statistics to be a very interesting read and while I did learn a lot, I didn’t get the formulas to address the specific applications I was seeking. I would like a simple table of formulas and their applicable uses that I could program into a spreadsheet to play around with. The stories, while educational and relevant, were also distracting to my purpose in reading the book in the first place. I would, however, highly recommend this book for students and people with less life and business experience than a 76 year old.

This book not only gives great insight into the realm of statistics, but delivers it in a fashion that is very easy to read. Wheelan explains the basics concepts in statistics, from probability to regression, with such simplicity. Though I personally already had a large amount of knowledge in the field of statistics prior to reading this book, i found myself being able to understand the basics with Wheelans examples far more easier than being previously taught these came concepts in the classroom. While a book on statistics may seem daunting and quite boring, Wheelan does a fantastic job of keeping the reader engaged with humor and real life examples of how statistics applies to the world we live in today. Whether you are reading this to grab a basic foundation of statistics or are brushing up on the concepts, this book is a must read!

To understand the development of ships over the centuries you should compare models, and the author should assist you by pointing out the differences not so obvious to a beginner's eye. This Mr. Gardiner does, and he does it well. He clearly knows his models, and he explains where there are some uncertainties, such as the presence or absence of sweep ports on the model versus the ship itself. The book is beautifully, richly, amply illustrated, and it is very reasonably priced. Excellent!

This book is more to my liking. The photos are clear, sharp, and outstanding models that provide a glimpse of what is required of a frigate, particularly in terms of the highly detailed accoutrements on the models illustrated. Many of the photos focus on the hull construction and only a few photos focusing on fully built up ships with masts, rigging, and spars all detailed. Perusing the photos in the book reveal how model ships should be built; attention to realism and details of sailing ships in the 17th and 18th centuries. Worth every dollar spent. One of the best books I've purchased in recent years. If you don't own this book, you're really missing out on view glorious photographs of sailing ships.

Robert Gardiner has written several excellent books on the sailing frigates of the Royal Navy. This one is in effect, an annotated catalogue of the frigate models in the National Maritime museum. It explains through the beautiful photographs, the evolution of this ship type. It is an important contribution to the literature on this topic, mainly because it illustrates many models that have not been examined closely and which the NMM has not chosen to place on public display. I see it as a useful ship modeling resource, a source of ideas on potential new models, and a well illustrated text. I highly recommend it and look forward to other books in this series. The author has indicated that he plans to produce several more books of this type, each focusing on a different type of sailing warship. I recommend it strongly.

I'm a professional model maker, aerospace (unfortunately), but whose true love the past 45 years has always been man-o-war models. Curiously enough, the more spacecraft I build the more fascinated I become with the technology of the wooden walls. Perhaps this is a counter-balancing mechanism. At any rate this interest in wooden warships has filled my library with many wonderful books by the most credible naval design authorities. Frequently the books in my collection featured images of the beautiful Admiralty style models. Sadly, the majority of the pictures were black and white. None the less, being such as I am, those photos further wetted my appetite for yet more data which could be of use in building an Admiralty model. Thanks to Amazon's habit of recommending products I was informed of the existence of this book. Based on other's recommendations this book purchased. Much to my surprise it is filled from cover to cover with COLOR photographs of Admiralty models. Surprisingly, considering the scope of my library, this book also contained data of which I was unaware. My congratulations and heartfelt thanks to the author for creating this delightful collection of imagery. Should one be have an interest in Admiralty models or the desire to build one I highly recommend this book. I feel it was money well spent. A word of caution: My copy was delivered at my workplace. I began thumbing through it during a meeting with some Nasa folks present. The unexpectedly gorgeous pictures elicited many uncontrollable sounds of model maker ecstasy from myself. The females present did not appreciate the vocalizations. Nor were they capable of grasping how one could be so enchanted with photos of two-hundred year old wooden models. So, the lesson is, do not review this book in mixed company. Once again, hats off to the author for sharing his collection of color images with us.
