Vidyamala Burch is a favorite mindfulness teacher, for me. She lives with chronic pain, and so she is a powerful role model for me, as i also live with debilitating pain. her voice is wonderful, so soothing. her words are full of compassion for self and courage. the meditation disk in this set is always in my CD player, as i use it everyday. i like that her meditations are 10 minutes, so i can listen to one or two or whatever. they are really well-done, and there is no music. the ones she has on youtube all have music. i prefer no music. i just love her! she has helped me so much. her website is great too, just do a google search ( not sure i can mention the name of it here). she still lives in a wheel chair, but she helps me see that i can still be happy, even with a life-changing things like chronic pain.

Excellent program for dealing with either chronic pain or anxiety. I bought a copy for myself a while ago and this one I gave to a friend who's also finding it very helpful in dealing with back pain and anxiety. The accompanying disc contains the guided meditations from each week of the program. I'm actually using it now in an on-line class in Mindfulness for Health offered by the author, Vidyamala Burch. Both she and her co-author have suffered from serious injuries themselves and the program is very well thought out. It's making a difference in my levels of anxiety around my chronic pain - by lowering the resistance to the pain itself and learning how to calm my mind, in turn my life is becoming more bearable. We're only part way through the program at this point but I really find it valuable especially learning how some of our habits create more suffering. The authors teach how to pace ourselves instead of the "boom or bust" cycle common to many who suffer from chronic pain or illness - when we feel a bit better we tend to overdo and end up incapacitated again - I speak for myself but apparently it's fairly common. So we learn how to observe our habits and modify them so that we're able to pace ourselves and suffer less consequences. The book is fairly comprehensive in its approach, not complicated, and so far it's teaching me new skills and habits that I find are very helpful on a daily basis living with chronic pain. My anxiety levels are clearly more manageable now.

I have suffered referred pain from an old neck injury for about six years now. I've given up on the nerve pain drugs that make you too spaced out to do anything, the shots are dangerous, and the PT only takes care of so much. Meditation and Mindfulness are helping me immensely, relax the tense bracing muscles, relax my jaw and reduce my headaches. This seems a much better treatment for me then all the things I've tried before.Excellent book. Very good meditation CD included.

It may be a good book, I have not read it. But BEWARE! The audio meditations are not there for kindle devises and the website for downloads has expired. The publisher has abandoned the project. Must not be selling all that well. Too bad.

I have had seven back surgeries and was suffer from pain for 8 years when a professional recommended this book. I had meditated and done breath work decades ago, but it never occurred to me to utilize it to reduce my suffering. While I still don’t feel fully compassionate toward my pain, most of the book made intrinsic sense to me and I started to feel a difference in just 2-3 weeks. Less suffering, better attitude. Highly recommended.

I purchased the paperback and Kindle version. This book has been helpful. I have had chronic pain for a decade of my life. Easy to read and to download the audio meditation guidelines. The CD is included with the book and web links to download audio are in the book. Helpful rea search and explanations on how the brain pathways are affected by chronic pain. Well worth the price of the books.

This review is not about the book's content but only the Kindle edition with its promise of "audio-video content."The above advertising is misleading. It makes it sound like you will get narration & you don't. I am not sure what if any audio content you DO get - I did not find any whatsoever inside Kindle when I ordered the ebook. I have contacted Amazon requesting to return the book for a refund.

This is an excellent book for using Mindfulness Meditation to address chronic pain issues. The text is eloquent, compassionate and user friendly. I am not through the whole book yet and am already feeling the benefits of doing the meditations. I particularly love Vidyamala Burch's approach to guiding meditations. Knowing that both Authors have used meditation to deal with their own chronic pain issues, lends credibility to the program they offer. I was already practicing Mindfulness Meditation but find this books particular focus on pain management extremely effective and especially helpful to me when I'm stuck,and feeling overwhelmed by my pain. I am grateful for this book and strongly recommend it.
