The collection of text and historical imagery in this book helps to do away with the ghost stories and urban legends that have come to haunt Overbrook over the past decade, replacing them with real stories of the actual people who worked here, and those who called this place home. The pages herein are a portal through which we may gaze, if only for a moment, at an era of time that is now mostly forgotten.
This book beautifully covers the history of The Essex County Overbrook Hospital. It lays out the past by showing pictures taken during the operation of the hospital, and includes informative descriptions that bring the pictures to life! There is so much to learn about such an enormous historic hospital, and this book kept me coming back for more! Whether their memories come from the time it was a bustling complex, or from when it sat vacant and sprawling, it inspired many true stories and local legends. This book does a great job fleshing out the history of the complex, with stunning historical photos, and even some photos after the complex was abandoned. A great book to learn about the history of this place, for locals and non-locals alike.
Thoughtfully written with tons of information and context behind each photo. The hospital has always been an interest of mine for a while so it's nice to finally be able to read the whole history of the place.
There was so much hard work and love put into this book. Not only is it extremely well researched, but the photos taken are very well done. I'd recommend this to anyone interested in history. Overbrook has quite the interesting history. And you will uncover it in this well done book.
Very well-written and put together book. I really enjoyed learning about this part of New Jesery's past. The hospital was fascinating and it's a shame that it's gone, however the authors have wpnderfully preserved it's history in the pages of this book .
