The author, a professional blackjack player, covers basic strategy, a few ways to count cards, money management in placing bets, and team play. The book also discusses counter actions taken by casinos, and what happens when you get caught.The book is straightforward and doesn't require a lot of math. I wouldn't really call it a "system" as some other gambling books profess, it's merely playing the best hand for any given situation based on probability. If you do that and count cards, you can end up with a slight advantage. Even with that you can still lose money.Anyone serious about playing casino blackjack should read this book.

This is the best overall of three books on blackjack I've read so far. You get the feeling this man has a very well-organized mind. He's the first author I've read who adequately explains deviations from basic strategy and the matix tables. He nicely discusses the issue of whether to go with a simpler or more complex counting system. Ironically, he is weakest where other writers are stronger: on betting strategy. Here I think he gets a bit too mathematically precise in his betting tables. Would someone with a $20,000 bankroll really bet in amounts of 83, 133, 182, 267, 338...? (p. 122). Of course not. But I completely agree with Bukovsky when he says, "Don't just read this book. Read everything you can get your hands on....Read and reread..." (219). Sound advice, in my view.

This is by far the best blackjack book I've read. This book breaks EVERYTHING down to the point its no way you cant understand the game and perks as well. Learning to count cards from a level one point to a level three point count. At first i was kind of undecisive on what book to buy but after reading this book and applying it to my game i have no regrets.From this point I can only get better.

I'm just a beginner and this book lays everything out simply while still remaining engaging. This is great resource for the beginner and I'm certain I'll refer back to it as I improve my play.

If you are reading this review, please read it to the end, even though it is a little long. If you already have some knowledge of German - not a lot, but some - this book will make you feel like you are almost fluent, even though you aren't. I was amazed at how much I could understand, and I was very entertained while learning. And you almost certainly will learn. This book, as far as I can tell, is based on the language learning concept of comprehensible input. Quite frankly, I've never experienced anything like it. These stories will take you places you have not been if you are only experienced with conventional instructional techniques. Extremely well crafted and obviously well thought out, this book is a pleasure, not a task to read. Having said all that, I do have these "extra" comments: This volume contains the first four books of an eight book series. I have read it all the way through, but I haven't yet completed any of the books after these four, though I have purchased them and have started on the 5th book in the series. These books are quite explicit when it comes to consuming alcohol. Some of the stories include passages where some characters are quite intoxicated. There are a very few passages that could be construed as very mild hints of recreational drug use by peripheral characters, mentioned only in passing and not developed in the stories at all, In one story there is an unexpected encounter of the principle character with some street Junkies. This is played in a very dramatic and sympathetic way: the principal character feeling the sadness and hopelessness of the situation and regret that there is nothing that can be done for them There are a few, very few, relatively mild oaths used in a few conversational passages. There are a few quite innocent romantic interludes. I have found no sex in any of the books so far as I have read. There is also an unfortunate choice of fonts which in one story, in one particular passage only, caused me to mistakenly perceive a dialectical quote as containing an extremely vulgar word. In the question and answers at the end of the section in which this occurs, the word appears again this time in the commonly used font, which reveals the word NOT to be that vulgar word. The first encounter of that word in the "bad" font was a bit of a shock, however. I greatly enjoy and appreciate this book. In addition to improving my German comprehension, I am also getting a lot of fun and cultural knowledge out of reading it. I recommend the book highly, but suggest being aware of the prospect of encountering material described in the above mentioned extra comments.

This was actually my first ever book in German that I've read. There's dozens of extremely common words in German that you think you know that you actually don't, such as immer, doch, or schon. The only way to learn words like these is to see them in context hundreds of times. This book also helped me to get a grasp of the German sentence structure.The author recently released a second compilation that contains books 5 thru 8. I plan to read through all those too.

This is an excellent reader. Not extremely challenging but a good vocabulary builder and reading comprehension builder. This book is also much better than buying the small books separate (which are too short to be worth the money). The stories are interesting, but also more real life kinds of stories (which is to help the reader learn commonly used phrases). This is worth the money for people learning German.

It is a good beginner's book or one to review German taken fifty years ago. The vocabulary is interesting, so I found it useful. Hey, at least it was not printed in gothic script like my German book those many years ago. The only disappointment was that I had already purchased the first two books included in this four book compendium. I'll wait on getting any of the next four, figuring they will combine them.

My students love these stories! They contain vocabulary learned in their textbooks, contain important cultural information often *not* covered in said textbooks, and have many fun and humorous moments.

A lot of fun to read, partly because of the character of Dino, but mainly because the German is simple enough that one can understand most of it even if one is a beginner--so it's very confidence building, and excellent for vocabulary building.

What a powerful story! This book is written in such a clear and thoughtful way - my five year old son understood its message when we read it together without any prompting. I love that the story has so many applications. It could be for children who experience a trauma and try to hold the experience inside; however, it could also just as easily be used to help explain how to deal with powerful emotions. I purchased the book to help my son talk about his frightening experience in the hospital. He had other things in mind though - he spoke about how he feels like he has a storm inside when he's angry. He thought about how sometimes he might hit me or stomp off to his room when he is mad, and how I can be like the helper kangaroo when I come get him after he has cooled off. Really awesome book! It is on our nightstand now, along with Trace Moroney's "When I'm Feeling..." series.

I love, love, love this book. The book is written in a very abstract way that introduces how holding our sad feelings in affects us, then provides some coping skills. It's easy to read and not too long for kiddos with a short attention span. The artwork is beautiful. I am a counselor and have been using this book in session frequently.

Here is a great book that helps children learn about anxiety, sadness and depression and how to find your way out of them. Children learn the importance of feeling your feelings, friendships, and letting go of the bad stuff bottled up inside. I wish I’d had this book when I was a child. I give this book to anyone having a new baby.

It's a bit uncomfortable that the rhyming lines aren't lined out and aren't in predictable measures. At times, the text is jus too pat. Still, it's a nice story, with generally good artwork. It might very well help a little kid get through a crisis, with a Mr Rogers sort of philosophy.

This is a nice but.... Being that I loved Reading Rainbow and respect that author and the work he's done, this book fell a bit short for me.While the message was a good one, I think it was a bit confusing and got lost a bit on its' delivery. I also think that it might create unneeded questioning for younger children that COULD (may not) create undue anxiety for sensitive children. I think the illustrations are wonderful and it has a powerful message but needs to be read based on a child-to-child basis. May be better for 6yrs and up.

I bought this for my sister's grandchildren and I took it when I went to visit over Thanksgiving. I live in Chicago they live in Houston and I had to read it several times a day to two 4 year olds and one who was nine. She read part of it. They would pick up this book before the many that they had. They were very observant. Said Papa was reading the same book we are reading now. I loved it, too.

Most children have experienced some sense of loss, fear or trauma in their lives and this book helps to convey that it is natural during those times to feel sad, alone or overwhelmed. The story conveys, very movingly, that love, faith and the kindness of others can help us through difficult times. I especially love that Little Rhino relies on both himself and others to weather his storm and that he comes through it feeling optimistic about the world and his future. This book could be helpful to any child who is experiencing a loss or major change in life. I highly recommend it!

I don't love this book. While it's cute and might be popular as a grab bag gift, the information included is minimal, the book is very small and because so, the price point isn't ideal.

Its a great book but the lollipops wouldn't stay hard

Very creative and fun book!! The images are truly lip-smacking! Recipes are super easy to follow and the lollipops make for great party favors and gifts. I never thought I could make my own lollipops and was surprised how delicious they came out to be.

A beautifully illustrated and the recipes are great to follow. The recipes are very creative and there is one of every occasion.

Loved it! I'm already a fan of Luxe Lollies (I've seen them at a baby shower, bridal shower and weddings). The book made a great gift for my mom, who always used to make us candy growing up. She was so excited by the flavor combinations she had never thought of before. I really like that the author experiments with such creative (and delicious) flavors, flirty presentation and that she uses her business to support good causes. Mom and I are really looking forward to tasting these recipes together!

I enjoyed the writing in this book and enjoyed hearing the story of a young tribal prince's descent into captivity and his ascent to freedom, as well as what he did with his freedom. I purchased the book for middle schoolers, but felt the writing is better geared toward 3-4 graders.The history was not "whitewashed," but the horrors of the middle passage and difficulties of life were handled subtly for sensitive children. Perhaps without further study, a student might conclude that life as a slave wasn't so bad, but with additional discussion about the realities of slave trade, it will be an excellent resource. The book mentioned once that he was beaten with a whip, and mentions a few times the scars left, but because of the story's emphasis is on his willfull path toward freedom, the book has an overall positive feel and outcome. It's focus is not the illumination of terrors, but the perseverance of the human soul to long for freedom.It's a great book to read focusing on empowerment, discipline, and hard work in the worst of situations. I would not use it to drive the point home about slave trade.I also liked that several legal documents are inset within the story, as they made for very good reading challenges.

I did not read this book yet. The review is based on my 10 year old son's experience. He said that the beginning is slow and not "so interesting," but by the middle of the book he was hooked. He really enjoyed this book so much that he wanted to tell me all of the details. My son is high-functioning autistic and has a really difficult time getting interested in any book that doesn't involve Minecraft or Legos. With that said, he read this book in 4 days!!!! That alone is a reason to make a 5 star review.

I used Amos Fortune with my seventh and eighth grade literature classes. This was my first year using this book and I was concerned that it would not capture the modern teenage imagination. I was so pleased by their reactions. They loved the book, and I loved introducing them to well-written literature. I love the character qualities presented in this book. I will be teaching this one for years to come.

Well written children’s book and really appropriate for Black History month in the northeast.His success and respect of the entire community is a wonderful legacy for those who feel this isn’t a place for an African-American; New England. Personal best knows no bounds!

A compelling story about a freed slave who made his way north. It was the first Newbery Medal winner I encountered at age 10 when my fourth grade teacher read it aloud to our class. It's still a must read for elementary school students. Gripping, and informative about slavery in America, it began my personal journey, still going on today, to learn about and help to eradicate racism.

Nice edition of one of the most wonderful true stories I've ever read. It is an easy read, but very impacting. Highly recommended!

Ordered it for my son. One of my favorite books. Thought it was a perfect way to explain history to my son.

I liked this book because it wasn't just a boring story but a story of how a free negro man was captured, sold, got freedom, lived, and died. It was an incredible, miraculous story of how a negro named Amos was set free from slavery by his master. Amos didn't just hog his freedom, but used his freedom to help others get freedom.
