This book is a very worthwhile resource - A quite small book, written in a personal manner, it accomplishes very well what it sets out to do - clarify, simplify and make information on trading options comfortably understandable. I'd say it's worth its weight in bitcoins . . . .Of the dozen or so books on my interests in option trading, which are at arms reach - this book by Roji A. is now on my short list of "go to" for clarity, simplified understanding and recall. Many of the other books I have, going back many years, now serve better as (heavy) paperweights, rather than useful sources of useable information.I really do think he has pulled off an important accomplishment. The material focuses on the basics, then builds using simple examples (of what's really going on with options trading), then cleverly and clearly walks through understandable details of about a half dozen popular options trading strategies. Given how confusing, complicated, convoluted etc., options trading can seem; to make the subject user friendly, clear, understandable as well as digestable - absolutely, hats off to this person. I liked its common-sense approach, however, would like to see it rewritten for just the American market, using our Stockmarket tickers.

The author gives a basic breakdown of options trading and Morty Solon examples in the different strategies used to maximize profit and reduce risk and loss. Overall it’s a good book.

This books presents useful strategies and is to the point. The author doesn't wander around and presents the concepts in a concise and easy to understand manner with one example per strategy. So far I have been trading options without hedging and although I had some successes, some recent losses set me to look for simple to understand material. Highly recommend this book.

This is an excellent story of post-slavery life and its effect on African-American and White Americans of many nationalities. It showed how the black family has evolved with psychosis from systemic and institutional racism especially its effect on the black male. The strength of the black family is also portrayed. Reading this story has brought me to the conclusion that no one has the right to judge a people who has endured what the African-American people has endured and still "We Rise".

This is one of the best historical novels I've ever read -- and it's based on the true story of the author's own great-grandmother. It's an engrossing and superbly well-told story, all the more unforgettable because it really happened. I'm just distressed that somehow I had never heard of it until recently. This book deserves to be familiar to every American, to be at least as well-known and widely read as classics such as To Kill a Mockingbird. It should appear on any list of Top 100 American Novels.

Though I’ve read many books and seen many movies set in the pre and post Civil War years, this story was particularly profound and real. The dialogue, the use of snippets of spirituals, and the character development made this book come alive. I felt I was with Vyry in each tragedy and heartbreak. She gave me strength and hope as she conquered hate with love.

Very moving and well written. I came across it when mentioned in another book I was reading. I am so happy I followed through and read it. It is a story that will touch the readers life in an enduring way. Must read!

Excellent historical novel. Heart felt characters and mazing storyline. Author did a great job using symbolic references to the bible related to events and persons in the book. Great context and vivid details.

It has been sometime that I have read a book that I could not put down. Vyry is a person that I would have loved to meet. She was a person that no matter what life dealt her She faced it head on. She came through life with grace. It is a book that I could not quit reading and wanted it to continue.

This book was soooooo good that I was telling my coworkers about it. I had it on my shopping list for YEARS before I broke down and bought the kindle version. A great book and the kindle version is great. It allows you to make book marks and highlights.

Really well-written historical novel. Didn't mind the dialect; it made the book more readable.

Laura Mitchell MBE MDS BDS FDSRCPS (Glasg) FDCRCS (Eng) FGDP (UK) DOrthRCS (Eng) MOrthRCS (Eng) qualified as BDS in 1981. She is the co-author of the popular Oxford Handbook of Clinical Dentistry, now in its fifth edition. Laura was elected to the Board of the Faculty of Dental Surgery, Royal College of Surgeons of England for a second term in 2009 and has had a number of leadership positions including Vice Dean. She is currently a member of the Faculty's Executive Committee and Chair of the IT Committee. Previously, she served on the Dental Council of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow. She has led the development of a number of postgraduate examinations and recently stepped down as Chair of the Intercollegiate Speciality Fellowship Examination in Orthodontics. She has played a prominent role in the development of Orthodontic Therapists. In 2010 she was awarded an MBE for services to healthcare.

Loved, loved Hammer-Girl & Grayson! Wonderful story full of mystery/suspense/romance ..... and terrorists! Couldn't put the book down! I loved everything about this book! The characters are well developed and believable. So is the story line. I loved Colleen Coble's Rock Harbor and did not think she could top those stories. The House at Saltwater Point does that, in my opinion. I was not that impressed with The View from Rainshadow Bay. I mean, I did like it. But this story tops it. I eagerly await the next book in this series! I will read & re-read this one again and again. Hope you like it too.

Ellie Blackmore loves fixing up houses and reselling them and it’s something she’s really good at. But how can she focus on her latest fixer-upper when her sister, Mackenzie, has gone missing and the only clue is a bloodstain on the deck of her boat. Mackenzie’s ex-husband, Jason, is Ellie’s business partner and she knows he and Mac were not getting along but she didn’t think he’d harm her. So who did? Grayson Bradshaw works for the Coast Guard as an Intel officer and is on the trail of a cocaine shipment that was stolen from the Feds warehouse. All leads point to Mackenzie but Grayson can’t seem to convince Ellie that she’s guilty. Both Ellie and Grayson want to get to the bottom of what happened to Mackenzie and what happened to the cocaine. What they discover is a lot more than what they bargained for and it will be a race against time to keep a terrorists attempt from turning deadly.The House at Saltwater Point is one of those stories that’s hard to put down once you pick it up. The mystery keeps you guessing all the way through with lots of clues to pick up on. The suspense keeps you turning pages to find out the resolution of the mystery. I enjoyed getting to know Grayson. He was a great guy and I liked Ellie too. Both were very real characters. I didn’t really care for MacKenzie though. Something about her just kinda hit me wrong. One aspect that I enjoyed was the little tid-bits from Hammer Girl Blog at the beginning of each chapter. I also enjoyed that Shauna and Zach were involved in this story. This is the second book in the Lavender Tides series and while there is a conclusion to this story, keep in mind that there will be some loose ends that will most likely be resolved in the next book. It’s a series I definitely recommend reading in order as there is a lot of history and details that build through each book and there is a subplot that runs through the entire series which is why there are some unanswered questions at the end. While the request was pending, I received a paperback copy from Fiction Guild sent me! Today's book, The House at Saltwater Point is by Colleen Coble, an author whose books I've really come to love!  The House at Saltwater Point is the second book in Colleen Coble's Lavender Point series. This book serves as a stand alone, but since I also read the first book in this series, The View from Rainshadow Bay, I was happy to catch up with the main characters from that book and to be introduced to Grayson and Ellie in this one.Ellie Blackshaw is a local house flipper, who joins forces with Coast Guard Investigator, Grayson Bradshaw, when Ellie's sister, Mac, disappears. The disappearance seems to be connected with the disappearance of a large shipment of cocaine from a local warehouse. Grayson is firmly resolved to prove that Mac was behind the cocaine theft, while Ellie is desperately trying to prove that Mac is innocent and still alive. What Ellie and Grayson discover is a whole lot more than what they bargained for and it becomes a race against time to keep things from turning deadly.This story captured me right from the start. There is lots of action and excitement to keep readers engaged throughout this story. As is usually the case with Ms. Coble's books, the characters are well written, interesting an unique. I can't wait to read the next book in this series -- I read somewhere that it may come out in January of 2019!I was provided with a complimentary electronic advanced reader copy through Net Galley in exchange for my post.  I also received a paperback copy of this book without cost from the publisher through The Fiction Guild, a Thomas Nelson/Zondervan Elite Reader book review bloggers program. The problem with writing about the ancient history is that very little written material has survived and what was written was written by the "winners". That is absolutely the case with Rome's three wars with Carthage and the history of Carthage in general. The problem for the popular historian is how to address that "absence" of material What Miles does in this book is to sort of invent a Carthage of his own imagination and to argue with Roman historians (Livy, Polybius, etc) based on the Carthage of his own creation.Its a valid approach, but it has its limits. It especially depends on the author not going too far with their imagination or bringing in an agenda. Its a readable and well-written book which at its best tells the story of the wars with Carthage in a far more readable way than the primary sources. But at its worst, Miles is seeing things that may not be there in history and he is bringing in an agenda.He brings a contrarian agenda to the book. Greeks and Romans are bad. Everyone else is not only good, but represents a wonder-filled tapestry of cultural diversity. He calls Carthage a "Mediterranean Melting Pot". Searching for support for this idea, he uses as an example a building in Libya built in a mix of styles (Egyptian, Greek and other). But rather than seeing it as a very derivative "kitsch" mess which suggests the absence of style, he sees it as "extraordinary eclecticism and openness to new influences and ideas". Worse yet, it never dawns on him that this sort of thing has never really gone away. You can find this sort of throwing together of style elements lifted out of context in American commercial construction today.The author goes off the deep end trying to make his point: "However, the bold interplay between shadow and light created by the concave lines and the height of the structure combined with the elegant vertical flow of the colonnades and the kouroi mean the moment stands as a graceful but unmistakable Punic view of the world". But contrary to that view, sometimes a garishly painted assembly of Greek columns crowned by Egyptian pyramids represents derivative bad taste rather than any view of the world.Where this is all leading is the author's view that the Greeks and Romans, rather than building western civilization, stole most everything that made up that civilization from a diverse utopian world that existed before they destroyed it and whose existence was covered up after they had destroyed it. Richard Miles at times seems to be close to channeling the ideas of "Black Athena" and certain well-known fringe political groups who push ideas of lost civilizations crushed by the evil Greeks and Romans."Carthage stands not only as an eloquent testament to the cultural diversity that once exemplified the ancient mediterranean, but also a stark reminder of just how ruthlessly that past has been selected for us". (p.23)'There are also points in the book where the author uses loaded modern words such as describing Barcid Spain as an "a form of apartheid". Strong words to be using. His backing example is that military troops in spain were issued different currency than the local tribes in Spain.As to Child sacrifice in Carthage, he is forced to admit the evidence for it, But concludes his discussion of it with the suggestion that the practice showed the importance of the "Levantine heritage" in Carthage and that it was a symbol of "vibrancy and coherency of the western phoencian world rather than a reflection of "conservative" politics being practiced in "immigrant communities". That the word "conservative" appears here is more than a slight sign of the author's attempts to put Carthage into a modern political context.The book spends alot of time making arguments with Greek and Roman historians. But rather than do it in a balanced way, he tends to assume the worst about them and the best about Carthage. Most dangerously, he makes those assumptions based on the Carthage that he has imagined rather than basing it on facts.The book doesn't do a good job with the most complicated questions concerning Carthage. Questions about what exactly was the nature of the political system. Is it fair to call it an empire similar to Rome or was it in reality simply something more like a commercial guild of merchants and traders with a mostly common religion.He closes the book by pushing the idea that Carthage "won" in the long run. He accomplishes that by basically making Roman Africa equal to Carthage which is a kind of questionable concept.The book presents a very neoliberal/neoconservative view of the world. Free trade, unrestrained capitalism and a rejection of nationalism in favor of an internationalist business mindset are what it believes in. Corporations without borders are held to be superior to the Roman Republic or Greek democracy.The book goes on far too long on certain subjects ("Heracles" in particular). Some of them could simply be skipped over. The book is at its best when describing well-known bits of the history and at its worst when it spends pages pushing the pet causes of the author and his vision of Carthage. But the writing saves the book. A think a better editor could have helped him produce a far better book.

Miles gets so caught up in arguing with classical Greek and Roman historians that it almost becomes a more important thesis of the book than the actual history. Every classical historian I've read discusses the possible biases inherent in their source material, but it really doesn't merit the level of iteration that Miles gives it here. At a certain point, this book does more to point out the things we don't know about Carthage than the things we do. Furthermore, Miles' fascination with minutiae of archaeological digs, offhanded references to historical examples the reader may have no familiarity with, and asides about anti-Carthage historians combine to completely offset any chance of crafting an actual narrative about the history of Carthage. The book is less like a professor delivering a great entry-level lecture and more like one having a discussion with colleagues.The problem may not be so much with the author as with his choice in subject. Like with the ancient Persians and Parthians, the only surviving examples of written Carthaginian history is told by its enemies. As a result, it is probably impossible to paint a full picture of Carthage. That being said, other authors have approached similarly difficult subjects with a more even-handed and engaging voice (I recently finished Tom Holland's Persian Fire and much preferred that admittedly less ambitious work).On the plus side, the work is meticulously researched. The bibliography and index account for nearly 150 pages of the book. I just wish that Miles had used all of that research to paint a better picture of Carthage (even if told through the eyes of their enemies).

Carthage Must Be Destroyed is a nearly perfect book for the history buff. I am no scholar and although I have a fairly recent master’s degree in history I haven’t taken a course in ancient history since my undergraduate days 45 years ago. I rarely read about ancient history but I was curious to learn about Carthage after reading a review of this book. Although I normally read ten to fifteen history books a year, since becoming bogged down in The Sleepwalkers: How Europe Went to War in 1914 last year I’ve been concentrating on historical novels. Carthage has renewed my confidence that serious historical scholarship can be fun to read. Richard Miles has done a masterful job in writing an eminently readable account in which his sources are summarized, analyzed and sometimes criticized in a most helpful way. This is a scholarly work – the voluminous notes testify to that. His account of Carthage, which naturally is highly dependent on Roman sources, also refreshed my recollection of the rise of Rome. My only criticism is that I did not understand the economic underpinnings of Carthage prior to the end of the second Punic War. Miles describes the economy of Carthage in its final years rather well at the close of the book, but it only underlined the need to explain it more fully at earlier stages. Miles is careful to not use analogies, but I gather, for lack of clear alternatives, that Carthage’s economy was similar to medieval Venice’s. But Venice had things to export as well as being master traders, so perhaps Carthage did as well? Nevertheless, the other elements of Carthage’s growth and destruction are well explained, including the religious and military aspects of its history. It’s a great book.

This is my go to book for understanding OpenId in general and how it works in Azure. He does a good job of explaining the concepts and options.This helped tremendously with building a product using IdentityServer3

I'm not a developer, and still found this book extremely helpful. It's an excellent resource for claims-based authentication concepts and background. The first few chapters are a great overview of identity protocols and concepts, helpful for non-developers that want to understand how everything works. Second half of the book is aimed at developers and writing code.

This book was well written and clearly lays out the structure of the various standards as well as outlining the various ways that authentication systems are built and used. Chapter Two clearly defines all the identity systems and how they have been used and how WS-* morphed out of usage except in government areas such as CJIS. The examples demonstrate how OWIN plays within web applications and Azure.

Most developers won't need the whole picture when it comes to using AD to do authorization. If you just want to use ADFS or Azure Active Directory you might be better off just using online documentation. This book goes in depth, if you are into that sort of thing. But its not a reference book.

Vittorio is a well-known expert in the field of web application authentication with Azure Active Directory (AAD) and Active Directory Federated Services (ADFS). That expertise comes shining through in this book, which is a great combination of history, theory, and hands-on exercises. This book meets a serious need in the community for better understanding of Open Authentication (OAuth) and OpenID Connect. In my opinion, the general lack of understanding within some corners of the development community is preventing organizations from effectively moving to the cloud because their development teams do not understand how to make the transition with mission-critical applications. I routinely see code intended for use with Windows authentication being applied to web applications, and developers can't figure out what's wrong. If you cannot adequately explain OAuth and OpenID Connect, if you can't implement these technologies in both server-side and client-side apps, then get this book and read it cover to cover. This book has the information you need to be relevant in a cloud world.

Tremendously helpful book that covers information about some of the inner workings of authentication with Azure AD that are hard to come by. Also helpful background on some of the why's of the protocols and implementation choices in Azure AD. I'd recommend this book to anyone building apps (or even just administering) with Azure AD and wants to really understand what is going on.

This book is ostensibly about Azure AD, and the code samples are all in C#, but it could have just as accurately been entitled "Everything a Modern Developer Needs to Know About Claims-based Authentication, OAuth 2.0, Open ID Connect, and Related Technologies." The conceptual overview material is fantastic - I finally feel like I "get" the details of OAuth2! Highly recommended.

Great book! I like the his style of providing general background information prior to jumping into the technical details!
